Professional Editing for
Sci-Fi & Fantasy Authors

From bold ideas to polished pages,
Cora Press helps you get your story ready to publish.

Editing your novel alone? You’re not supposed to.

Most writers never learned what real editing looks like, because it’s not what they teach in school. Proofreading? Sure. But story structure, pacing, dialogue, worldbuilding, character arcs? That’s a whole different skill set.

If you’ve been piecing together advice from friends, beta readers or wrestling with vague feedback from low-cost editors, you’re not alone. You shouldn’t have to pay inflated rates for editing that still leaves you wondering what to do next.

Cora Press was built by authors and editors who were tired of the guesswork and pricing models that weren’t affordable. If you’re a New York Times bestseller, maybe you can pay thousands of dollars for editing. Most indie authors can’t afford that, so they either go without or hire someone cheap who doesn’t truly know their craft.

We specialize in sci-fi and fantasy editing that follows the Professional Editorial Standards (PES), a clear, structured framework that breaks editing into well-defined phases, from big-picture analysis to final polish.

You don’t have to guess your way through editing or pay excessive costs.

With an Editorial Review, we can show you exactly where your manuscript stands, what to work on next, and how to move forward with confidence.

What Genres We Edit

We work with science fiction and fantasy in all their forms—from space opera and near-future sci-fi to epic and contemporary fantasy. Whether you’re writing a sweeping saga or a quiet, character-driven story, we’ll help you strengthen your worldbuilding, pacing, and prose. We edit novels, novellas, serialized fiction, and short story collections. We do not edit horror or stories containing explicit sexual content or graphic violence. (English-only manuscripts.)

Clarity at Every Stage

No guesswork or vague instructions. You'll get clear, professional feedback tailored to your manuscript’s current stage.

A Step-by-Step Editing Process Designed to Move You Forward

Editing isn’t just about fixing grammar. It’s about understanding what your story needs right now.

Maybe your pacing drags. Maybe your characters don’t click. Maybe your plot needs tightening or your worldbuilding needs to shine.

Most editors dump everything on you at once, or worse, polish the surface while the real problems remain underneath.

We don’t do that.

At Cora Press, we follow a structured, transparent editing framework that meets your story where it is and helps you grow one step at a time.

Each stage builds on the last. No guesswork, no overwhelm.

Editorial Review

Big-picture feedback that shows you what's working, what's not, and what to do next. You'll receive a detailed editorial report assessing structure, pacing, arcs, plots, and overall story cohesion.

Stylistic (Line) Editing

Line-level revisions to improve flow, clarity, tone, and rhythm, all while keeping your unique voice intact. This stage elevates readability, emotional impact, and sentence-level polish.

Copy Editing

Grammar, punctuation, word choice, and consistency. Every sentence gets cleaned and tightened, following The Chicago Manual of Style, the industry standard for book publishing.

Proofreading

The final polish before publication. Typos, formatting issues, and any last-minute errors are caught and corrected in your formatted manuscript.

But I want Developmental Editing!

And we deliver that, in spades. ‘Developmental Editing’ is one of the most confusing editing terms in publishing. Every editor seems to define it differently, leaving authors unsure what they’re really paying for. At Cora Press, we’ve made it simple. Our Developmental Editing package combines two distinct, well-defined steps: Editorial Review + Stylistic (Line) Editing.

Together, they deliver the story-level guidance and line-level refinement that true developmental editing should provide.

Here’s how it works

1. Editorial Review
We begin with a comprehensive story assessment that pinpoints strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. You’ll receive focused feedback on structure, pacing, character arcs, worldbuilding, and theme.

2. Editorial Review Decision
After the review, Cora Press evaluates your manuscript’s readiness for stylistic editing. If the story structure and narrative foundation are strong, we move forward. If deeper adjustments are needed, we’ll guide you on the most effective next steps before proceeding — no wasted effort, no guesswork.

3. Stylistic Editing
Once your manuscript is ready, we perform an in-depth line edit that enhances flow, clarity, and tone while preserving your unique voice and vision.

No wasted effort. No confusion. Just a clear, expert-led path from first draft to publish-ready manuscript. Find out more about our Developmental Editing.

This story meant something to you.
Let’s help it mean something to others.

Stories that resonate — the ones that stay with people — aren’t lucky. They’re shaped, strengthened, and polished with care.

You wrote this book because you had something to say. A truth, a world, a spark of wonder that deserved to exist.

Editing is how you give your story its best chance to connect. To resonate. To reach the people it was written for.

We won’t promise you a bestseller — no one can. But we can help you clarify the heart of your story, sharpen your voice, and polish what’s already working — so when readers pick it up, it lands.

Not just to be read, but to be remembered. That’s what editing makes possible.

It’s about giving your story its best shot at doing what it was always meant to do: move people.

I’d taken my book as far as I could on my own and truly felt it was well written. But I was curious to see what could be improved, so I submitted it to Cora Press. The level of detail in their feedback blew me away. They dug deep and gave me specific, actionable guidance that’s helping me revise in ways that dramatically increase both the readability and emotional impact of the story. I’m so satisfied with the results, I’m sending each of my other books in for the same treatment. If you want to connect more powerfully with your readers, I highly recommend working with them.
